Dear Friends of Lyndonville Schools,
June was a whirlwind, but it was such a happy whirlwind. Congratulations to the Class of 2024. I am so proud of each of our seniors. They are brave, smart, creative, funny and kind. They have charged out into the world to make their mark. If you run into any of our newest Lyndonville adults, give them encouragement, give them life tips, give them opportunities. I pray for their success and happiness.
Planning for the capital project continues this summer. Our partnerships with Wendel Architects and Engineering, and Buffalo Construction have been exceptional. They are on site weekly. We are all excited about the upcoming improvements and repairs, including replacement of the “metal building” with a permanent structure and a new track, among other repairs and improvements to the physical campus.
We have completed our first full year of offering college courses at no charge to our students. We saw increased enrollment and college credits awarded. Our Board of Education and Administration are committed to continuing this important initiative which assures this opportunity is open to all students.
Summer Recreation, Reading and Math Enrichment, and Summer School have kept our school hopping. Breakfast and lunch are being served free of charge to all our students enrolled in summer programs. Our hallways and grounds are filled with students’ voices and giggles, even in July and August. Teachers come in weekly to prepare and enrich their skill sets, as well as complete data analysis to aid in curriculum planning. A great deal of professional development goes on throughout the summer. Their hard work and preparation allow LCSD to present an exceptional instructional program to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
I wish for each of our students and families a fun-filled summer break, filled with lots of time spent outdoors with family and friends. Remind students to read a little each day. Playing board games as a family keeps their young minds sharp. Please monitor and limit their screen time. Every year, research increasingly shows the negative impact that screen time has on the hearts and developing minds of our children.
Principals Dr. Smith and Dr. Slack, Director of Special Education Aimee Chaffee, School Business Administrator Bart Schuler and I work daily throughout the summer planning for the coming school year. Feel free to call, email or drop in this summer.
We all look forward to seeing you for Lyndonville’s Family Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 27. Until we meet again, enjoy these wonderful days of summer.
Sincerely,
Sharon Smith
